    About This Recipe

    • These Pretzel Brownies have the same base recipe as my Easy Breezy Brownies recipe, and I added these beautiful frosted pretzels that I purchased from our local grocery shop. As soon as I saw these pretzels, I thought of using them in a batch of brownies.
    • The red M&M gives extra chocolate flavor, crunch, and color.
    • This recipe calls for granulated sugar and brown sugar. Brown sugar adds flavor and moisture to the recipe.
    • These brownies use both butter and oil. Butter, needless to say, has a ton of flavor, and oil keeps the brownies moist for a longer time.
    • We use three eggs and an egg yolk which bonds ingredients together and adds moisture.
    • These Pretzel Brownies contain cocoa powder, espresso powder, and mini chocolate chips. This brings the ultra chocolaty flavor and richness. Espresso powder enhances the cocoa powder.
    • One more ingredient that I want to mention is cornstarch. Cornstarch thickens the brownies and contributes to their texture.

How To Make These Pretzel Brownies

    • Start by melting the butter in the microwave. Add the oil and set aside to cool down slightly.
    • This step is very important. Use a hand mixer or a stand mixer set on a paddle attachment, and beat sugars, eggs, and the egg yolk. Beat them for 3-4 minutes. This contributes to the shiny and cracked surface.
    • Switch to a rubber spatula and mix in the butter and oil mixture.
    • Sift in the dry ingredients and gently fold. In the end, add the chocolate chips and mix. Do not overmix.
    • Spread the mixture in the lined pan. Place the desired pretzels and M&Ms over the brownie batter. Do not overbake the brownie. The center should be moist and not dry once an insert comes out.

    Ingredients

    • ¾ cup Butter, Melted
    • ¼ cup Oil
    • ¾ cup  All-purpose flour, Spooned and leveled
    • 1½ tablespoon Cornstarch
    • ½ teaspoon Salt
    • 1 cup Cocoa powder, Dutch-processed
    • 1 tablespoon Espresso powder
    • 1½ cups Granulated sugar
    • ½ cup Brown sugar, Packed
    • 3 Eggs, Room temperature
    • 1 Egg yolk, Room temperature
    • 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
    • 1 cup Mini chocolate chips
    • 1 cup Frosted pretzels, About 10 pretzels
    • ¼ cup Red M&Ms, For topping

    Instructions

    • Preheat the oven to 325°F and line an 8X8 inch brownie pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
    • Melt the butter in the microwave and add the oil. Let cool down until you do the next step.
¾ cup Butter, ¼ cup Oil
    • In a medium-size bowl sift all the dry ingredients including flour, corn starch, salt, instant coffee, and cocoa powder
¾ cup  All-purpose flour, 1½ tablespoon Cornstarch, ½ teaspoon Salt, 1 cup Cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon Espresso powder
    • Set the stand mixer on the paddle attachment and whisk the brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, egg yolk, and vanilla extract. This step should take about 3-4 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.
1½ cups Granulated sugar, ½ cup Brown sugar, 3 Eggs, 1 Egg yolk, 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
    • using a spatula, add the melted butter and oil mixture to the egg mixture and mix until just combined. DO NOT OVERMIX.
    • Add the dry ingredients and the chocolate chips. DO NOT OVERMIX.
      1 cup Mini chocolate chips
    • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and distribute evenly.
    • Place the pretzels and the M&Ms all over the brownie batter.
1 cup Frosted pretzels, ¼ cup Red M&Ms
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes. The edges start to roll over and set. The center will be gooier, and that is okay. Brownies will keep baking as they cool down.
    • Remove from the oven and let cool completely. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO LET THE BROWNIES COOL DOWN BEFORE CUTTING THEM. Cutting the brownies early will leave you with a big brownie mess.

    Notes

    • Take your time mixing the sugar and the eggs. This step will build the structure of the brownies.
    • Sift all dry ingredients to remove any lumps.
    • After adding the flour, DO NOT OVERMIX the batter.

      Yummy, moist and soft.
Delicious chocolate flavor with thick crunchy edges. M&M smarties make the brownie like chocolate cookies which gives you a bit different taste than regular brownies.
      Loved it a lot
Highly recommended to be part of your party table:)
