About This Recipe
- These Valentine's Cut-Out Cookies are super tender and soft, and the recipe can adapt to many different cookie types. My Cut-Out Cookies use the same basic recipe.
- This recipe uses Powdered Sugar instead of granulated sugar, contributing to their tenderness.
- The other ingredient that plays a significant role in the soft cookie texture is the Egg Yolk. Egg Yolk creates bonding in the recipe, making the cookie texture exceptionally soft and moist.
- The other essential ingredient is Cornstarch. Cornstarch gives the cookies a velvety feel.
- The remaining ingredients include All-Purpose Flour, Butter, Vanilla Extract, and Salt.
- As I mentioned, this recipe is easy to prepare ingredients. However, the cookie dough requires one hour of chilling time. Cooling the dough makes the cutting easy and mess-free.
- The Glaze contains Nutella, which adds a ton of flavour to these Valentine's Cut-Out Cookies. The Glaze will set and form a crust so you can easily stack the cookies to gift or pack for yourself. Inspiration for the Glaze is from Sally's Baking Addiction Cream Cheese Cut-Out Cookies with Nutella Glaze recipe.
- For the sprinkles, I used Mini heart-shaped Valentine's sprinkles, but any Valentine's decoration will work fine.
How To Make The Best Valentine Cut-Out Cookies
- This recipe uses room-temperature butter (not too soft, though). Leave the butter at room temperature before starting to bake.
- Mix the butter, powdered sugar, Cornstarch, and salt until smooth and silky.
- Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract.
- Add the flour in two or three passes and mix well after each. You would have a soft and smooth dough in the end.
- Shape the dough into a disc, cling wrap, and chill for one hour.
- Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the dough. Place the dough between two pieces of wax paper or lightly flour your working surface for easier rolling. Roll out the dough to ¼ inch thickness.
- Once the dough is ¼ of an inch thick, use your heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the dough.
- In the meantime, preheat the oven to 325F. Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes or until the edges look set. Do not overbake them, as it makes them dry and brown.
- To Make the Glaze, mix all the ingredients until smooth and spreadable. If the Glaze is too stiff, add more cream; if it is too runny, add more powdered sugar.
- Sprinkle their top with the sprinkles and let the Glaze set before stacking.

Storing: Keep These Valentine's Cut-Out Cookies in an air-tight container at room temperature for a few days. They freeze well for a couple of months.
Disclaimer: I highly recommend using the measurements in grams & ml (instead of cups & spoons) for more accuracy and better results.
