Decadent, rich, and infused with espresso and cocoa flavour, these Tiramisu Cupcakes are an absolutely delicious dessert.
Tiramisu is one of the most popular dessert recipes. It is traditionally made in a casserole dish, which could be 8X8 or 13X9 inches. Now, you see this dessert in the form of a cake or cupcake. I already have a Tiramisu Cake on my blog, and now I am sharing the recipe for a Tiramisu Cupcake with you.
Decadent, rich, and infused with espresso and cocoa flavour, these Tiramisu Cupcakes are an absolutely delicious dessert.
About These Tiramisu Cupcakes
- These cupcakes have the base of my White Cupcakes recipe, which is easy to follow with a list of ordinary ingredients.
- Tiramisu has three main components: The Lady Fingers Cookies, Mascarpone Cream, and the Coffee Soak.
- To make these Tiramisu Cupcakes as close as possible to the original Tiramisu, I dunk a piece of Lady Fingers Cookies into a strong coffee and Dark Rum mixture, then insert it inside the cupcake core. This will add texture and flavour to the cupcakes.
- Mascarpone cream is the other part of any Tiramisu, a creamy and smooth frosting that tops Lady Fingers cookies or, in this cake, cupcakes.
- Tiramisu is dusted with cocoa powder to give the cupcakes a mocha flavour.
How To Make These Cupcakes
- These cupcakes are very easy to make. Whisk all dry ingredients together.
- Use the paddle attachment to beat the room-temperature butter and sugar for 2 minutes until light, fluffy, and creamy.
- Add in the oil and vanilla extract and mix well.
- Add in the egg whites and beat well. The mixture should look homogenous and light.
- Switch to a spatula and add the dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, and start and finish with dry ingredients. Gently mix, and do not overmix.
- Fill up the liners to ⅔ and bake the cupcakes.
- Bake them for 15-18 minutes, and let them cool before frosting.
Mascarpone Frosting
- Beat the cold Mascarpone cheese, powdered sugar, and salt on low speed with the paddle attachment until smooth and creamy.
- Add the cold whipping cream, vanilla extract, and yolk, turn the speed to medium-high, and beat the mixture until it thickens and becomes stable.
- Egg yolk adds bonding between the cream ingredients and makes it more stable.
- The mascarpone cream should become pipeable and not too soft and runny.
Assembling Tiramisu Cupcakes
- Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting them.
- Use a Cupcake Corer or a small knife to make a hole inside the cupcakes.
- Dip a small piece of Lady Fingers Cookie (about 1.5 inches long) into the coffee/rum mixture and insert it into the cupcake cavity.
- Use a fork to poke the cupcake top so the coffee penetrates the cupcakes.
- You can use a different piping tip to pipe the Mascarpone cream on top of the cupcakes.
- Top the cream with cocoa powder dusting. The combination of cocoa powder and espresso flavour adds a unique mocha flavour to the cupcakes.
- Enjoy these decadent cupcakes with a cup of coffee 🙂
