These pumpkin chocolate squares are the perfect snack in the Fall season. They make a good snack to pack in the lunch box. This recipe is loaded with Fall warm and fragrance spices.
About This Recipe
- This pumpkin Chocolate square recipe requires no fancy ingredients. All you need is the basic ingredients to make a cake plus some pumpkin puree, chocolate chips, and spices. See how to make the Spice Blends
- This recipe is baked in an 8X8 pan, however, you can spread the batter on a large Baking Sheet and make a sheet cake. Sheet cake squares will be thinner.
- These cake squares are very soft and tender, and if stored in an airtight container, will last for up to one week.
How To Make These Pumpkin Chocolate Squares
- This recipe comes together very easily. First mix all the dry ingredients which include the spices.
- Melt the butter, Let it cool down. Then mix it with the oil.
- Then add the other wet ingredients, and beat well. All the wet ingredients should incorporate fully.
- Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients and pour the wet mixture into the center. Gently fold the dry into the wet mixture until all the dry is mixed in. When there is no trace of flour and the batter is lump-free, stop mixing. DO NOT OVERMIX.
- At the end add in the mini chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle more chocolate chips on top, and bake.
- This recipe uses mini dark chocolate chips, but other kinds of chocolate chips such as milk, or semi-sweet are fine as well.
- I am using an 8X8 inch pan, but this recipe can be baked on a large rimmed baking sheet to have a sheet cake with thinner squares.

Pumpkin Chocolate Squares
Moist, tender, and delicious pumpkin chocolate squares that are packed with Fall warm spices.
Ingredients
- 1 cup All-purpose flour, Spooned and leveled
- 1 cup Pumpkin puree, See notes
- 1 teaspoon Baking powder
- ½ teaspoon Baking Soda
- ¼ teaspoon Salt
- 1 tablespoon Fall spice blend, See notes
- 1 cup Sugar
- 2 Eggs, Room temperature
- ½ cup Oil
- ¼ cup Butter, Melted
- 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
- ½ cup Mini dark chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon Mini dark chocolate chips, For sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Oil spray an 8X8 inch pan, then line with parchment paper. Leave some from the sides for lifting.
- Melt the butter in the microwave for 20 seconds, until it is melted. set side to cool down. Then mix with oil.¼ cup Butter, ½ cup Oil
- Mix all the dry ingredients, and set them aside.1 cup All-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon Baking powder, ½ teaspoon Baking Soda, ¼ teaspoon Salt, 1 tablespoon Fall spice blend
- In the bowl of a stand mixer set on the paddle attachment, beat the eggs, pumpkin puree, sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix well.1 cup Pumpkin puree, 1 cup Sugar, 2 Eggs, 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients, and pour the wet ingredients in the center. Gently fold the dry into the wet and mix. DO NOT OVERMIX.
- Add the mini chocolate chips, and gently mix.½ cup Mini dark chocolate chips
- Pour the batter into the lined pan and smooth out the top. Sprinkle the top with the chocolate chips. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until an insert comes out clean.1 tablespoon Mini dark chocolate chips
- Let cool down in the pan, then lift the paper from the sides and transfer it to the cooling rack. Let cool completely before cutting.
Notes
- Reduce the pumpkin puree by placing a thick piece of paper towel on the puree. This will absorb the moisture from the puree quite a bit.
