These delicious Spice Cookies With Maple Glaze scream Fall like nothing else! Bring out all those warm and fragrant spices that you saved up for your Fall baking. We need them today. This cookie recipe is packed with all the warm spices and topped with a maple-flavored glaze for additional flavor.
About This Recipe
- These cookies use a handful of simple ingredients, and the recipe comes together in no time. The kind of spice you use is optional, however, I recommend using a blend of spices rather than just cinnamon, clove, etc. I am using the Fall Spice blend from the Spice Blends post.
- This recipe uses both granulated sugar and dark brown sugar for additional flavor and moisture.
- This cookie dough requires chilling because this dough is on the soft side. Chill the dough for at least two hours to have the best result.
- For flavor enhancement, I am adding a small amount of Maple extract to the glaze, but that is optional.
- These Spice Cookies With Maple Glaze can be cut in any shape and size. I have used the pumpkin and maple leaf cookie cutter to make them look more Fallish 😉 They can also be sandwiched with some jelly or Apple Butter!
- The glaze adds more flavor, and sweetness, as well as a soft texture to the cookies.
How To Make These Spice Cookies With Maple Glaze
- This cookie recipe calls for room temperature butter and egg. Leave them out of the fridge a couple of hours before you start baking the cookies.
- We use a combination of all-purpose and almond flour. Almond flour adds more texture and a nutty flavor to the cookies.
- Whisk all the dry ingredients including the spices, and set aside.
- Using a paddle attachment, beat the butter and both sugars for a good 3-4 minutes. Until light and fluffy.
- Add in the room temperature egg and vanilla extract, and beat for another minute.
- Remove the bowl from the stand mixer and use a spatula to mix in the dry ingredients. Mix just until the flour is disappeared. Do not overmix.
- Dump the dough on a floured surface and divide the dough into two disks. Wrap them in cling wrap and chill.
- When ready to bake, roll out the dough on a floured surface to ⅛ inch thickness. Useing your favorite cookie cutter, cut the cookies and bake.
- In the meantime prepare the glaze by mixing all the ingredients. The glaze consistency is super important. You want it to be runny enough to cover the cookies, but not too runny to drip down the cookies. Also, it should not be too dry. The glaze is ready when you take a spoonful of it and pour it back into the bowl, it should create a ribbon, that takes a few seconds to disappear. If it is too dry, add more milk, and if it is too runny add a bit of powdered sugar.
- Be sure cookies are completely cool before glazing them.
Disclaimer: I highly recommend using the measurements in grams & ml (instead of cups & spoons) for more accuracy and better results.
