We all know how satisfying it is to have those warm, gooey, sticky, and delicious cinnamon buns on Christmas morning. But, if you are not sure about making those yeasted buns, no panic! I have a much easier solution for you 🙂 This Christmas Morning Cinnamon Bun Cake comes together in no time, and you can make it first thing on Christmas morning. No proofing, waiting for the dough to rise, etc.

    Christmas Morning Cinnamon Bun Cake

    About This Recipe

    • This Christmas Morning Cinnamon Bun Cake recipe contains straightforward and basic ingredients and no fancy ones.
    • This cake is baked in a 13x9-inch pan, and after it is cooled down, It is topped with a creamy and decadent frosting.
    • This recipe contains the cake base, the Cinnamon filling, and the cream cheese frosting.
    • The cake has a fluffy and moist texture, and the aroma of the cinnamon filling makes the perfect cinnamon bun flavor. And let's not forget the creamy frosting that every delicious cinnamon bun should have.
    • We need the usual ingredients for the cake base, such as butter, sugar, butter, leavenings, eggs, and sour cream. Sour cream moistens the batter and gives the cake a slightly sour taste that makes a balance with the sugar going into the recipe. The cake batter will be thick, and that is okay.
    • Before baking the cake, prepare the cinnamon filling, spread it over the cake batter, and bake it.
    • Let the cake cool down completely, and cover it with the frosting. The frosting consistency should be just like a cinnamon bun frosting. Not too runny and not too thick.

How To Make This Christmas Morning Cinnamon Bun Cake

    • Cream the butter and sugar until very fluffy. This step aerates the batter and makes the cake light and tender.
    • Add in the eggs one at a time and mix well after each. Add in the vanilla extract and milk.
    • All we have left is the dry ingredients and sour cream. Add dry ingredients alternating with sour cream; start and finish with dry ingredients.
    • Spread the batter into the pan and smooth it out with a spatula.
    • Move on to making the cinnamon filling. Mix the softened butter, dark brown sugar, and cinnamon until a paste is formed.
    • Drop spoonfuls of the mixture over the cake batter, and make swirls into the batter, trying to push the filling inside the base batter. Bake the cake and let it cool down completely.
    • Let the cream cheese out of the fridge for a couple of hours before using it. Beat the cream cheese until broken and soft. Add the butter and mix well. Add in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract and beat for 3-4 minutes.
    • If you like the frosting to be thicker, add more powdered sugar, and if you like it thinner, add a couple of heavy cream to thin it out.
    • Spread the frosting all over the cool cake.
