About This Brown Butter Donut Cake
- This recipe is made in a Bundt pan to showcase the look of a humongous donut, well, not that big, but a large donut.
- This cake's crumb is similar to that of a pound cake, which has a denser texture than a layered cake.
- The outside of the cake is brushed with cinnamon sugar, just like a cinnamon donut. However, you can also glaze it with a simple sugar glaze.
- The ingredients are straightforward and easy to prepare, as follows.
- We need All-purpose Flour, Baking Powder, Salt, Butter, Oil, Eggs, Vanilla Extract, Sour Cream, Brown Sugar, as well as Granulated Sugar, Cinnamon, and Nutmeg.
- As the recipe name suggests, brown sugar is the main source of sweetness. Brown sugar gives the cake a caramel flavour and contributes to a moist crumb.
- This recipe calls for both butter and oil. Butter adds a lot of flavour to the cake, and oil keeps it from drying out quickly.
- Let's not forget about the sour cream. Sour cream's acidic properties result in a tender and fluffy crumb.
How To Make This Bundt Cake
- Start by preparing your ten-cup Bundt Pan. Since the Bundt pan has many folds and lips, it is very important to prepare it properly to prevent the cake from sticking to the pan. The best way to prepare the pan is to use Cake Release or Goop. In this post, I will show you how to make homemade cake goop. Chocolate Peanut Butter Bundt. Brush your pan with Cake Goop thoroughly and store the leftovers in the fridge for your future Bundt-making projects 🙂
- Preheat the oven to 350F, sift all dry ingredients, and set them aside.
- Cream the butter with both sugars for at least 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add the oil and mix well.
- Add the eggs, one at a time and mix well after each. Add vanilla extract and mix.
- Next, add in sour cream and mix well.
- At the end, use a rubber spatula to fold in the dry ingredients and gently mix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, then tap the pan on the counter a few times to release the air bubbles.
- Bake the cake for 35 to 40 minutes. It is ready when an insert into the center comes out clean.
- Let it cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer it to the cooling rack to cool down fully.
- Brush the cake with melted butter and use a clean brush to apply the cinnamon sugar on the cake's surface.
- Enjoy it with a cup of tea or coffee.
