    Peanut Butter Chocolate Hearts

About These Peanut Butter Chocolate Hearts

    • These little treats come together quickly and easily, not requiring baking or cooling time.
    • The ingredients are simple and basic, including Butter, Peanut butter, Granulated Sugar, Vanilla extract, Powdered Sugar, and Salt.
    • The peanut butter dough is what we use in the Buckeyes cookies. This dough is playable and easy to shape and roll into different shapes, just like a buckeye.
    • As you can see, these Peanut Butter Chocolate Hearts are not round like the buckeye cookie. You need to roll the dough out like the cut-out cookies and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the dough into a heart shape.

    • The Chocolate coating can differ from dark chocolate to milk or white chocolate. I used dark chocolate to balance out the sweetness of the powdered sugar in the recipe.
    • For the chocolate lines on the finished chocolate heart, I am using milk chocolate to contrast with the dark coating; however, you can use dark or white chocolate. I believe any you decorate these hearts will be just great and beautiful.
    • Another option for decorating these Peanut Butter Chocolate Hearts is to sprinkle their tops with Valentine's Day Sprinkles.
    • Remember to use the same recipe to make peanut butter balls or any shape and dip them into melted chocolate.

    How To Make Them

    • Leave the butter out of the fridge beforehand to bring it to room temperature.
    • Beat the butter until light and pale in colour.
    • Add the granulated sugar, salt, and vanilla extract and mix well.
    • Add the peanut butter and mix.
    • Add the powdered sugar in ¼ cup additions and mix well after each.
    • This recipe calls for three cups of powdered sugar, but since different powdered sugar brands contain various amounts of starch, you may need more to reach the desired consistency. The dough should be playable, like soft play dough, and not too sticky. If it is too sticky, add more powdered sugar; if it is too dry, add one teaspoon of peanut butter.
    • Sprinkle powdered sugar on your working surface and the rolling pin for easy rolling.
    • Roll out the dough to half an inch thickness and dip the heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the hearts.
    • Place them on a baking sheet and chill them for at least half an hour.

    Chocolate Coating

    • While the hearts are chilling, melt the chocolate in a double boiler or the microwave. Use the microwave to warm the chocolate for 15 seconds, then stir and heat it for another 15 seconds. Repeat until all the chocolate is melted and smooth.
    • Add the coconut oil and mix.
    • Use a fork to lift each heart and dip it into the melted chocolate. Pull the fork to the edge of the bowl to remove the excess chocolate. Place the hearts on a cooling rack to drip the excess chocolate. Let the chocolate set thoroughly before decorating.
    • Melt the chocolate you will use for the lines. Pour the melted chocolate into a piping bag and snip the tip of the bag. Run the melted chocolate over the chocolate heart to create lines. If using white chocolate for the lines, you can add a couple of drops of pink food colouring for the pink lines.
    • Add some sea salt on top if you like.

Storing: Peanut Butter Chocolate Hearts can be stored in an air-tight container and the fridge for two weeks. They freeze well for two months.

Disclaimer: I highly recommend using the measurements in grams & ml (instead of cups & spoons) for more accuracy and better results.
