Layers of moist and fluffy apple cake filled with Apple Pie Filling and Caramel Sauce, and the whole cake wrapped in a creamy and smooth Spicy Cream Cheese Frosting.
About This Apple Caramel Cake Recipe
- This recipe contains four different parts. The Cake, the Apple Pie Filling, the Caramel Sauce, and the Cream Cheese Frosting
- This Cake has layers of a moist and fluffy spice cake soaked in caramel sauce. There is also a generous amount of apple pie filling in between the layers.
- Each cake layer is loaded with the Apple Pie Spice blend, See Spice Blends for the full recipe.
- Before stacking the layers, each layer is covered in the homemade Apple Hand Pie and homemade Caramel Sauce. This adds a ton of moisture and flavour to the cake in total. Homemade Apple Pie Filling and Caramel Sauce make all the difference.
- Caramel sauce has a unique warm flavour, and it goes with all the other spices perfectly.
- Finally, the frosting that goes all over the cake is cinnamon cream cheese! How about that?
- This delicious and beautiful cake is topped with two mini Gala Apples, and to make them go well with the rest of the cake, I dipped them into the Caramel Sauce.
- When I say this cake is a combination of a ton of flavours, I am not lying 😉 This frosting is creamy, with a tangy flavour from the cream cheese. Cinnamon makes it a perfect match to the rest of the cake.
- This cake recipe contains both Brown Sugar and Granulated Sugar. Brown sugar adds more moisture, colour, and flavour due to the molasses content.
- Apples: Let's talk about the apples we use in this recipe. Any baking apples will do the job for this Apple Caramel Cake. I would recommend Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, or Pink Lady.
- The main source of fat in this cake is the Oil, and we add one tablespoon of Butter for flavouring. Butter adds a unique aroma on top of the fat content, and oil also adds moisture and fluff to the crumb.
- This recipe uses a tablespoon of Sour Cream, an excellent ingredient. Sour cream contains fat and acidity that activates the learners in the recipe, resulting in a fluffier and lighter cake.
- The highlight of this recipe is the Apple Caramel Spice Blend, Spice Blends. This blend has a ton of warm spices to taste the next level!
- The other ingredients are as simple as All-purpose Flour, Baking Powder, Vanilla Extract, and Salt.
How To Make This Cake
The Cake;
- Peel and dice the Apples and toss them with Cinnamon and Brown Sugar. Let them sit on the counter and move on to the next step.
- Beat the butter and two sugars until creamy and soft.
- Add the Oil and Vanilla Extract and mix well.
- Add the Eggs one at a time and beat after each one.
- Sift all dry ingredients and add them to the above mixture in three passes.
- Fold in the apples and gently mix.
- Divide the batter between two 8-inch pans and bake.
Apple Pie Filling
- The Filling is an important part of this recipe and brings moisture, texture, and flavour to this cake.
- This filling requires just a few ingredients and comes together in no time.
- Dice the apples and cook them with Butter, Brown Sugar, Spice, and Apple Cider. Cook the apples for about half an hour and stir occasionally until all the chopped apples are soft and changed colour.
- Remove from the heat and add the vanilla extract.

Cream Cheese Frosting
- There are two secrets to a creamy and smooth cream cheese frosting. 1) The Room Temperature Cream Cheese and 2) Not mixing the powdered sugar directly into the cream cheese.
- Just like the American Butter Cream, start beating the butter until it is creamy, fluffy, and light in colour.
- Add the spice to sifted powdered sugar, add it in small amounts and beat well after each addition.
- After adding all the sugar, add the room-temperature cream cheese in tablespoons and beat well until the frosting is creamy and smooth.
- Mix in the vanilla extract and mix.

Apple Caramel Cake

Ingredients
For The Cake
- 2 cups Apple, Peeled and diced
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
- 2 cups All-purpose flour, Spooned and levelled
- 1½ teaspoon Apple pie spice
- 2 teaspoon Baking powder
- ½ teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Oil
- 1 tablespoon Butter, Softened
- 3 Eggs, Room temperature
- 1 cup Granulated sugar
- ½ cup Brown sugar, Packed
- 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
For The Filling
- ½ cup Caramel sauce, See notes
- 1 cup Apple pie filling, See notes
For The Frosting
- 1 cup Butter, Room temperature
- 3 cups Powdered sugar, Sifted
- 4 ounce Cream cheese, Room temperature
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon Cinnamon
Topping
- 2 Apples, Small
- ½ cup Caramel sauce
Instructions
How To Make The Cake
- Preheat the oven to 350°F, grease and flour dust two 8-inch round pans. Set them aside.
- Peel and dice the apples and toss them with cinnamon and brown sugar. Set aside.2 cups Apple, 1 teaspoon Cinnamon, 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
- Mix all the dry ingredients and set aside.2 cups All-purpose flour, 2 teaspoon Baking powder, ½ teaspoon Salt, 1½ teaspoon Apple pie spice
- Beat two sugars and butter for three minutes until light and fluffy.1 tablespoon Butter, 1 cup Granulated sugar, ½ cup Brown sugar
- Add the oil and mix well.1 cup Oil
- Add the eggs one at a time and beat after each one. Add vanilla extract and mix.3 Eggs, 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
- Add the dry ingredients in three passes and mix. Do No Overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until an insert come out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes then transfer to the cooling rack to cool down completely before frosting.
How To Make The Frosting
- Leave the cream cheese out of the fridge for a few hours before making the frosting.4 ounce Cream cheese
- Start beating the butter until it is creamy, fluffy, and light in colour.1 cup Butter
- Add the cinnamon to sifted powdered sugar, add it in small amounts and beat well after each addition.3 cups Powdered sugar, ½ teaspoon Cinnamon
- After adding all the sugar, add the room-temperature cream cheese in tablespoons and beat well until the frosting is creamy and smooth. Mix in the vanilla extract and mix.1 teaspoon Vanilla extract, 4 ounce Cream cheese
How To Assemble
- Cut each cake layer into two layers so you are left with four cake layers.
- Place the first layer of the cake on the cake rack. Cover the top and sides of the cake layer with the frosting. Using a piping bag creates a barrier on the edge of the cake layer. This is to trap the apple pie filling inside the cake.1 cup Apple pie filling
- Drizzle caramel sauce over the buttercream and spread it over the cake layer.½ cup Caramel sauce
- Repeat these steps. Crumb coat and frost with the remaining frosting. Spread the remaining caramel sauce over the cake or drip caramel from the sides.½ cup Caramel sauce
- Dip the small apples into some caramel sauce and place them on top of the cake. You can stick a dry piece of twig into the apple for that natural rustic look.2 Apples
