Start adding the dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk in three passes of dry ingredients and two buttermilk. Start and finish with dry ingredients

How To Make The Frosting
If using cream cheese frosting, beat the butter until it is light, fluffy and pale in colour.
½ cup Butter
Add the cream cheese in small chunks.
8 ounce Cream cheese
Add the powdered sugar in ¼ cup, and mix well after each addition.
2-3 cup Powdered sugar
Add the vanilla extract and mix. If the mixture is not smooth, add the heavy cream until the frosting reaches a smooth consistency.
