Fall breeze is in the air, and we see all Autumn indicators around us. Grocery stores have all kinds of baking and cooking apples, and bright orange pumpkins are sitting at the storefronts. One more thing that screams Autumn is the aromatic spices. These Brown Butter Apple Blondies have a blondie base and are loaded with chopped apples and aromatic baking spices!
About This Brown Butter Apple Blondies Recipe
- These blondies are soft, buttery, flavourful, and unbelievably easy to make.
- The key ingredient in this recipe is the brown butter. I have shared quite a few posts, including brown butter. Brown Butter Marble Cookies.
- Browning butter adds a unique, warm and nutty flavour to the recipe.
- Browning butter causes the butter to lose some of its water content, so we need to add something to replace the evaporated liquid! To do that, I added one tablespoon of Unsweetened Apple Sauce.
Apples
- The apples that we use in this recipe are cooking apples. Cooking apples doesn't change their shape while cooking. They can go into apple pie filling, hand pie, apple butter and filling, etc. Apple Butter
- I used Pink Lady Apples in this Brown Butter Apple Blondies recipe, but other kinds of apples, such as Cosmic Crisp, Fuji, or Golden, are acceptable. You can also mix two kinds of apples for more flavour.
- The spices are the other elements that set these Apple Blondies apart. See this post on how to make different spice mixes. Spice Blends. You can use one and a half teaspoons of Fall Blend from the above post or simply use a mix of cinnamon and clove.
- This recipe uses brown sugar for that extra caramel flavour and moisture from brown sugar.
- The Blondies are topped with a mix of cinnamon and sugar before going into the oven, and this gives the blondies that crunchy and crispy top.
How To Make These Blondies
- As the recipe name suggests, we start with browning the butter. Brown butter adds a ton of warm, nutty flavour to your baking.
- Chop the apples into half an inch small pieces.
- Brown the butter and set it aside to cool down completely. I kept it in the fridge for half an hour.
- In a separate bowl, sift all dry ingredients, including the spices.
- Beat the brown butter and sugar with the paddle attachment until fully blended and smooth.

- Add in the eggs, one at a time and beat well after each addition.
- Add the apple sauce and vanilla extract and mix. The mixture should be smooth and homogeneous at this point.
- Use a rubber spatula to fold in the dry ingredients, and gently mix everything. Do not overmix the batter. Stop mixing when you still see a few streaks of flour.
- Fold in the apples and mix them into the batter. Do not overmix.
- Grease and line an 8 X 8-inch pan. Spread the batter into the pan and smooth it evenly in the pan.
- Sprinkle the top with cinnamon and sugar mixture.
- Bake the blondies for 35-40 minutes. Let them cool down before cutting them into squares.
- These blondies pair really well with a scoop of ice cream.

Ingredients
For The Blondies
- 1¼ cup Butter, Brown it and let it cool down
- 2 cups Brown sugar, Lightly packed
- 2 Eggs, Room temperature
- 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon Apple sauce, Unsweetened
- 2 cups All-purpose flour, Spooned and levelled
- 1 teaspoon Baking powder
- 3 teaspoon Fall spice blend, See notes
- ½ teaspoon Salt
- 2½ cups Apples, Diced
For The Topping
- ⅓ cup Granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoon Cinnamon

How To Make The Blondies
- Brown the butter and set it aside to cool down and solidify.1¼ cup Butter
